A recent report detailed an elaborate effort by Maurice McDonald to steal money from his own campaign. The report claims that the campaign leader, McDonald, had embezzled a sum of money upwards of $5M.
The report accuses McDonald of making unauthorized purchases, giving employees unapproved bonuses, increasing employee salaries, and falsifying expense reports and records of the transactions.
The report, if true, could lead to court cases and lawsuits with charges of fraud, theft, and other crimes. McDonald could potentially face jail time and large fines for the offenses.
Off-the-book records showed salary increases in the tens of thousands for over 10 employees of the campaign and foundation, and secret bonuses to McDonald himself in the hundreds of thousands. Credit card records were also included in the report.
The credit card purchases total over $50,000, nearly all for personal use. Charges included hotel rooms, restaurant bills, large shopping sprees, and plane flights.
The report has yet to be proven untrue, and the written nature of the records seem very hard to deny. If an embezzlement campaign such as this one was just now uncovered, the potential for even more elaborate, larger campaigns can not be understated.
As for the questionable morals of the McDonald campaign, if stealing campaign money is not off limits, then what is? If this stayed under wraps for over 7 years, what other campaigns or schemes might the American people, including McDonald’s supporters, not know about? Regardless of the answer, it is clear that McDonald is unfit to be the president of America.
