Among Sarah Smith’s campaign platforms, she very strongly advocates for the Moon to become the 51st state in America. She states, ¨The moon is a mere 2 light seconds away and begging for our help…. despite the moon seeming like an astronomically sized feat to John F. Kennedy in 1962, because of our incredible innovations today, we can already see millions of people inhabiting it.¨ Smith states that the moon is a mere 2 light seconds away, which while this is true, leaves out the aspect that the moon is 238,900 miles away making the journey incredibly difficult. Additionally, Smith seems to believe there is a colony on the moon and they are being separated from the rest of the world. This is innately inaccurate which has been proven by scientific data from NASA and makes me question where Smith gets her information from? What sources of information does she support? Smith spreads lies and misinformation in order to advance a useless and unattainable idea.
