Smith’s Healthcare Policy: Incomplete and Inept

By: Evan Sporkin

Now that candidate platforms have been established, the true incoherence and evident cognitive decline of the right is on full display, and look no further than the healthcare policy of the Smith campaign. The platform given was incomplete, incomprehensive, and inadequate in all measures. Quotes from the speech demonstrated expert use of gibberish and meaningless words which have little effect other than to cover for the fact that there is no real policy.

Although very little unique explicit policy was given, one thing that could be derived from the platform was that a focus is placed on health insurance for small businesses by the Smith campaign, which already exists. The only other explicit policy choice from this platform was the removal of Obamacare.

“By eliminating Obama Care we will stop the witch hunt and fines for lower income families and allow Americans to make their own decisions about their healthcare.” What? The main problem with this quote isn’t even that it doesn’t make sense, it is just that the statement is blatantly untrue. One of the main focuses of Obamacare was increasing affordability and availability for low-income families, but, assumingly, this fact was entirely overlooked by the Smith campaign. Instead of just omitting this fact, they simply decided to say something that was completely opposite of the truth, symbolizing the destruction of reason and logic that characterizes the right today.

During the surrogate debate, candidates on the left used the time to effectively bolster their positions on healthcare, including comprehensive plans from Julia Swift and Amanda Davis. However, members of the right could only reiterate what their inadequate platforms had already said, or change the topic. The contrast between the plans of the left and right highlighted a truly important difference in priorities between the two sides, and one that means danger for the future of the country.
